Why did the DOJ release the video then remove it? Who made it ? Why?
Trump’s Department of Justice released and deleted a new video file today. The footage appears to be AI generated. The suspicious footage purports to Jeffrey Epstein in his cell at the Metropolitan Correction Center recorded on the day of his death. The video has unusual vignetting, a date and time stamp in the upper left corner, and a small caption in the lower right corner, “C-B14 J Epstein.” The video is 12 seconds.
On 12/22/25, the file was released on the DOJ’s website. I was able to download it at 1:59 pm Pacific Time (from this URL at Justice.gov) However, as 3:19 pm Pacific Time access to the URL is now denied.
The video appears to be AI generated. The video is unusually vignetted to suggest that the camera is a hidden pinhole surveillance device, from a spy movie circa 1970s. The dark, circular shadows around the edges (vignette) and the heavy "static" are intentional artistic choices designed to mimic old or low-quality CCTV footage. In real prison surveillance, such as the actual footage released by the DOJ, the image is typically clear and spans the entire rectangular frame without this artificial "tunnel vision" effect.
The image contains objects that do not match the documented contents of Epstein's cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC). For example, the device you asked about previously—which resembles a modern medical aspirator or portable vacuum—was not part of the standard cell equipment or medical devices (like a CPAP machine) noted in the official OIG investigative reports.
The timestamp in the left corner (08-10-2019 04:29) does not align with the technical format of the MCC’s actual recording system. Besides, MCC officials and the FBI already stated there was only one functioning camera on the floor.
The cell door’s window is off center. But in verified pictures of the cell, the window is in the center.
In July 2025, the DOJ released several videos outside of the cell that appeared to be edited. The edited footage fueled conspiracy theories as to whether Epstein had escaped or was murdered.
